At VARC, we believe in the unique potential of every individual, especially those with disabilities. Our Client Service programming is designed to nurture that potential, offering robust Prevocational and Supported Employment services that transform lives and redefine possibilities. With the right support and guidance, clients can discover their strengths, develop job skills, and build meaningful careers in their communities.

Toni participated in Prevocational Services for 25 years at VARC's Reedsburg Division, and graduated from VARC's Ready Set Work! class. These formative programs enabled Toni to develop the skills needed to secure community-integrated employment at Culver's a few years ago.

Cultivating Skills in a Supportive Environment

Our Prevocational Services program is at the forefront of helping clients develop essential job readiness skills. Through tailored training in our dedicated production facility, individuals engage in practical activities, learning teamwork, communication, and self-advocacy. These foundational skills are essential for smooth transitions into the workforce, transforming aspirations into actionable employment goals.

Take, for example, Max, one of our dedicated clients. Recently, Max completed an impactful internship with Madison College - Reedsburg. Supported by VARC, Max utilized this opportunity to refine his skills and boost his confidence. The structured internship program paired him with supportive campus leadership, enabling him to tackle various tasks around the college. Max’s progress has been considerable, and his dedication has filled him with newfound confidence on his journey toward independence. In a heartfelt message, Madison College commended Max’s achievements, wishing him all the best as he continues to make his mark in the world.

Transitioning to Supported Employment

Once clients have developed essential skills, they can choose to transition into VARC’s Supported Employment program, where their capabilities are matched with local businesses eager to embrace diversity in the workforce. This next step allows individuals to gain real-world experience, further enhancing their employment readiness and contributing positively to their communities.

Another shining star within our client community is Kisha. Her journey is a testament to the power of exploration and growth. Kisha began her pathway with job shadowing opportunities, allowing her to explore diverse career options. With VARC by her side, she stepped into various environments, from grocery tasking at IGA to team collaboration at Culver’s, before landing an internship at Water Street Social Club in Prairie du Sac.

The team at Water Street Social Club was impressed with Kisha’s industrious nature and thoroughness as a kitchen assistant and dishwasher. They praised her not just for her commitment to the job, but also for her fantastic personality and sense of humor. “She faces challenges with a smile and gusto,” they expressed in a post on their Facebook page, highlighting the warmth and positivity she brings to the team. With each experience, Kisha is building a career grounded in her interests, particularly as she aspires to work in animation.

A Community of Support and Growth

VARC’s commitment to individualized care is what truly sets our programming apart. We understand that every client has unique strengths and aspirations. Our employment specialists are dedicated to finding the right fit for each individual, collaborating with local businesses to create meaningful employment opportunities. With fifty years of experience, VARC continues to foster a vibrant community where individuals with disabilities can thrive. From the initial stages of skill development in Prevocational Services to exciting career placements through Supported Employment, we are invested in each client’s journey toward success.

As we celebrate the progress of Max, Kisha, and others like them, we invite our community to join us in championing inclusivity in the workplace. At VARC, we’re not just providing services—we’re cultivating futures and empowering lives, one remarkable journey at a time. Together, we can help our clients achieve their dreams and make a positive contribution to their communities.
