Cheese Corner, a beloved Viroqua-based deli will reopen its doors during Summer 2021, officially becoming one of VARC, Inc.’s satellite locations throughout southwestern Wisconsin.

The Cheese Corner is located on 323 S. Main Street, Viroqua, Wisconsin

Viroqua, WIS.—today, VARC, Inc. formally announced its newest venture expansion through its impending purchase of the Cheese Corner. This family-owned deli operated in Viroqua for 40 years before closing its doors in March of 2020, due to the impact of COVID-19, to the great disappointment of customers near and far. In the spirit of ultimate comebacks, VARC, Inc. has decided to purchase the Cheese Corner and bring this eating experience back to the landscape of downtown Viroqua, while simultaneously furthering its own mission to provide employment opportunities to the clients they already serve.

The news originally broke Friday morning on the Cheese Corner Facebook page, where current owner Tina Tryggestad notified her followers of the deli’s intention to reopen under new ownership. “…the Cheese Corner will live on! The great people of VARC will be putting some much needed TLC into our favorite building on the Corner and hope to reopen the Cheese Corner this summer,” says Tryggestad. The change of hands has already generated much visible excitement, as a positive community outpouring was demonstrated through hundreds of heartfelt comments, likes, and shares on social media. “My family and I, as well as my mom, Judy the Cheese-triarch, have truly enjoyed bringing you food, love, and laughter, ” she said to her customers. “It was an honor and a privilege to be part of your lunches and your lives. Thank you for the shared gift of your patronage and your dedication to our community.”

It is VARC, Inc.’s intention to resume the deli business as is, while making some needed structural improvements to the location on 323 S. Main Street. Upon completion of a brief remodel, the Cheese Corner is expected to reopen its doors during the summer of 2021.

“The Cheese Corner is a beloved staple of the Viroqua and the surrounding area,” says Liz Filter, President | CEO of VARC. “We’re beyond thrilled to be a part of continuing the legacy while offering new employment and skill training opportunities for individuals with varying abilities.” VARC, Inc. currently provides a variety of recreational, vocational, community-oriented, and employment-related services to over 800 clients in twelve different locations, and has maintained its commitment to assisting those with obstacles to employment find fulfillment in their lives, through meaningful activities and independent lifestyles.
